Apple Vs Vgj: Why Do They Hate Ios Screen Recorders For Iphone And Ipad?

Why does Apple not allow screen recorders let’s ask them hello folks are welcome at back to meet video gadgets Journal are i get a hell of a lot of comments on my videos the majority of them at the moment tend to be about VGA wreck but in between those I get some pretty sensible questions one of which is.

A recurring one and has been for months and months and months and that is why does Apple hate screen recorders we’ve never had an official screen recorder on an.

IOS device there’s never been an unofficial one on the App Store or when they have appeared on out stars they’d immediately been revoked or chopped off of the App Store so it’s clear.

That Apple doesn’t want is recording our screens now they’ve never given out an official answer to this so I decided to take things into my own hands now I didn’t go and walk into an Apple store and ask because they probably would have thrown me out especially if I brought my mascot with me so what I did is go onto the Apple online chat and try to find out that way and this.

Is how it went down now this very first exchange felt like I was talking to.

A computer since he didn’t relax panic specific questions and it was looking for probably trigger points such as product names refund or whatever but soon enough I was connected to somebody with a slightly quirky name is it from etosha and Dacia Nastasia.

With two S’s I don’t know I’m probably gonna get absolutely flamed in the comments for that one but.

Anyway we’re digressing I am now connected to my Apple and specialist so I decided to go straight for the jugular I basically asked them I want to record my screen for when.

I’m playing games and the idea was that was going to pitch it as a determining factor on whether I bought an iOS device and more an Android device and that’s going to come up a little later so let’s see what she says okay she’s going to.

Check if there are any apps available paulus no no no no hang on hang on I’ve got a better mean for this a devil’s.

Advocate here for a second these Apple specialists probably get hundreds of questions a day about many different parts of a product’s you can’t expect them to remember everything off by.

Her and let’s be honest how many people who actually own Apple devices want to screen record maybe 2% 5% complete yes but she had put the seed of optimism in my head so I thought I’d really drill home the questions to see what came.

Response did take quite a while probably about a minute so I think she probably.

Went up and asked somebody else for an answer or maybe searched their knowledge base and they finally came back with this ah so.

It’s not natively built into the Apple device but there may be a third party applications yes we already know this but why do.

They not appear on the App Store but since the question of whether you could natively record it on your iOS device came up I thought I’d make a little dig at Apple and ask a dumb question ah.

I thought you would be able to screen record on your device because it’s 2017 and here was a response and this is the first big barrier that were getting from Apple they.

You can screen record what you have to stream it to your Mac or your PC through QuickTime in order to do it ah my first trap I know but you definitely can’t do it to a.

PC using QuickTime because QuickTime has been D supported completely on PCs as of a couple of years ago I believe it so I thought I’d Ram home my knowledge about this not being possible and even.

If it is possible to scream at your iOS device to your.

PC or your mic to which we know we can do how many people can do that of the 2 to 5 percent that want a.

Screen record obviously we’re lowering at the user base even more and there we are correction made apology offered apology accepted but we need to get back on track anyway so I’m going to say that I don’t.

Have a mic which is completely true but I do have a PC and if you’ve been watching my video over the last six months.

You will know but you can stream your iOS device to your PC and record it using lowly screen which is completely free check out the video if you want to so I’m going to ask them and say you can’t record your iOS screen directly from your iPhone or your iPad and this was their suggestion you could.

Take a screenshot hey let’s pretend that Apple specialists never suggested that such an idea and we’ll never speak of it again so let’s move on to the second phase of this conversation we now know an Apple admit that they don’t do screen recording natively.

On their iOS devices so I was going to drop the bombshell this is a deal-breaker to me.

Again an Apple or Android device screen recording is very important to me and lots of applications on Android do for free so why does an apple iOS device to run and this was the specialist response and there you have it.

Folks the average man or woman in an Apple store over the telephone on online chat it’s not going to be able to answer your question about why iOS devices do not screen record they don’t.

Have specific answers to specific questions and they have the.

Fallback is sending you to the feedback section of Apple and when you think about how many people have probably gone to the feedback session of Apple and asked for.

Tens of thousands and nobody with guess has ever had a straight answer or it’s been implemented.

By Apple as we now find ourselves in this situation ten years after the device was.

Released now in order to keep up the charade that I knew nothing about iOS screen recorders and I was asking knowledge for the first time I did sound a little annoyed in my messaging the Apple specialists had mentioned that this privacy issue that that’s possibly the reason why you might not be able to record on your iOS device however they had previously said.

That we cannot do screen recording via a MacBook so surely streaming your iOS device to a map book and a screen recording is exactly the same it’s not less secure than doing it directly on your device.

So I brought up that but I hit a brick wall again they were now saying we understand your concerns but you really do need to go back to the back section of Apple in our to launch your I guess complain our suggestion so effectively we’ve hit a big bad brick wall hello hello can.

How To Connect Your Ipad/iphone To Mirror Onto An Activpanel

Hello i’m simon luck swimmer from vsms and here is my top tip on how to connect your iPad or your iPhone to mirror onto an active path so first of all making sure the active panel is on you’ll see that I have the desktop screen reflected here which matches my PC press the source button which is down on.

The right-hand side of your actual panel or on the remote control the button looks like this press it once to cite them through the various options that you have for your sources here I’m on HDMI too but there.

Are only two that have green lights activated Nexen so I only have a choice of two we’re going to select HDMI three or active Connect which has come up here already that’s going to take me through to the active Connect home screen from here you’ve got options for scan your QR code or or setting a genetic code to lock it down for students.

Or staff to use the important thing is to note the name of this particular panel here is Junior School mats now on my iPad I’m going to activate the screen sharing or the airplane mode either by swiping down the right-hand side or swiping up you’ll see this option here I’m gonna select screen mirroring and then from the list of possible Apple TVs on the screen I’m going to.

Select Junior School maths you’ll see here that in my pattern now I’ve got a green bar across the bottom giving me the deny or allowed access to be able to share when I select allowed I’ll don’t.

Get whatever is mirrored on my screen of my iPad shown on my board meaning as a teacher I’m not stuck up at the front and I can move around the room you can also do this for children’s iPads officiating.

The same Wi-Fi network so being able to airplay their work up on the board for demonstration purposes is also released.

How To Use Find My Iphone To Get Your Stolen Iphone Back

Long story short: my wife had her iPhone stolen when she misplaced it at work. I was instantly able to log into her iCloud account and follow the device all the way back to a residential address, saving her the trouble of searching around the warehouse for a phone that was no longer there. We locked the phone and sent a polite message asking the ‘culprits’ to return it for a (very small) reward, but failing that we had their address to cross-reference on the employee database.

The next day we saw the phone travelling back to her workplace in the early morning, and when she arrived she found the phone had been anonymously returned with no reward asked for.

This story has a happy ending of course, but Apple’s free Find My iPhone service is also able to deal with the less happy outcomes in a way that minimizes your risk for greater losses. Let’s look into the app and see how you can ‘MakeUseOf’ it when your phone is lost or stolen.

So What is Find My iPhone?

Find My iPhone has been a part of Apple’s iCloud service for a while now, and since iOS 8 is enabled by default. It’s not just your mobile device either – if you have a laptop or desktop, the service can keep a rough track on those too (though not with the same level of details, since they don’t have a GPS chip inside). It’s also used to enable Activation Lock, which renders your device useless even when a thief tries to wipe it clean.

Here’s my wife’s iPhone, in the process of being stolen (this isn’t their home address, this was on the way).

find my iphone app

I must have it! How do I enable It?

Since iOS 8, Find my iPhone is enabled by default, but it’s a good idea to check in case you’ve accidentally disabled it at some point.

1. Make sure you’ve signed up and enabled iCloud on your device. From Settings > iCloud you can sign up for a new iCloud account, or if you’ve already got an account connected, scroll down and ensure Find My iPhone is toggled to On.

2. Location service must also be enabled, from Settings > Privacy > Location Services > On

iphone settings

It’s also good to enable the Send Last Location option, which will ensure the last known location is stored in case the battery runs low.

3. Scroll down on the same screen to Find my iPhone at the bottom of the list and click through to enable it specifically there.

On a macOS desktop or laptop, you can enable the feature via the iCloud icon in System Preferences.

So Your iPhone was Stolen?

Open up the Find my iPhone app from either any other iOS device (you need to download it from the app store first), or log on to from a computer.

device list

You should see a list of devices registered to your account, and location discovery will begin. Click on the device once it’s been located correctly.

locating and options

You should now see it on a map, along with a list of actions you can take. There are 3 choices:

  • Play Sound. This plays a “sonar” style sound at full volume, even if your device is set on silent mode. This is especially useful if you can’t find your device around your home!
  • Lost mode. This will ask you to enter an alternative phone number at which you can be reached, and will then lock your device with a message to call that number. Note: the option to send a message has been removed. You can only send a contact number.
  • Erase iPhone. This is final and more drastic option. It will initiate a low level format of all your data, leaving it like a fresh iPhone straight from the factory. Be very careful when using this, as you will no longer be able to track, lock, or message this device if you use this option. However, it cannot be re-activated without your iCloud login, so the criminals that stole it will not be able to use your device either.

Your first move should be to activate Lost Mode and prevent any calls from being made. This will stop most thieves from getting at your data, or making premium calls.

Second, follow the device via the GPS signal. We don’t suggest trying to be a hero, however — you may be placing yourself in danger. If the phone has settled in a specific residential address, your first call should be to the police, but understand they won’t always be willing to help. If that’s the case, there’s very little you can safely do. You should call anyway though to report your device as stolen, and obtain a report or incident number which you’ll need to make an insurance claim. Many home and contents insurance policies cover devices when they’re out of the home, too.

At this point, you’re going to have to gamble. If it was indeed stolen, and the thief is happy to try every one of the 100000 combinations in a 6-digit lock code, your data may be at risk. Use remote wipe as a last option only if you’re confident you won’t get the device back.

Lastly, be sure to phone your mobile provider and lock the SIM. This will prevent them making calls/texts and prevent any further expenses, but it’s not going to get your phone back.

There is one further piece of mind for you: if the thief wipes the phone in an attempt to resell it (or if you initiate the wipe remotely), it cannot be reactivated without your iCloud details. All iPhones with a registered iCloud account are now useless to thieves, meaning the incident rate of iPhone theft should eventually reduce (assuming thieves are savvy enough to know their crime is in vain).

A Solution for Android Users

Not wishing to exclude those inclined to the other mobile OS – Prey is a free service able to track up to 3 devices, and even has the ability to take photos of the thief using the laptop webcam or front camera. Sadly, Find My iPhone doesn’t let you do this, and due to the nature of iOS you won’t find a similar app that does. Prey does offer an iPhone app, but it offers nothing over the built-in iCloud service, so I don’t suggest iOS users should switch unless you want a single solution for multiple devices, and even then, you should keep Find My iPhone enabled.

Has Find My iPhone helped you? Do you have any experience using Find My iPhone to get your phone back, or even a computer? Let us know in the comments, I’d love to hear how it worked out for you.

Control Spotify On Your Mac Using Spot Remote [ios]

control spotify on macWith Spotify and similar music-streaming services on the rise, the run-of-the-mill stereo installation is starting to look more and more inadequate. Hook up your laptop or desktop computer — or even your phone — to your sound system, and you’ll have a stereo installation that’ll rarely leave you wanting more.

The main problem with this setup is that if you’re sitting with friends, computer-stereo-hybrid blasting away at the other side of the room, it’s often a chore to play DJ. If you don’t enjoy the benefits of AirPlay, queueing a new album on that computer requires just as much work as it would on a conventional stereo.

That is, unless you start involving your mobile devices and an app like Spot Remote for iOS.

Spot Remote ($2.99)

Spot Remote is a small application for your iPhone and iPad that allows you to remotely control your Spotify-equipped Mac OS X computer. Instead of crossing the room to access your computer, Spot Remote allows you to remotely manage Spotify’s music; skipping songs, queueing artists and even creating a Spotify radio station.

control spotify on mac

In fact, Spot Remote looks very similar to the Spotify app for the iPhone or iPad. The main difference being that, instead of controlling the music that’s coming from your mobile device’s speakers, you’re playing DJ with the Spotify client hosted on your Mac. You may not have access to all the same features you have on your computer, but there’s an unmistakable benefit to being able to control a central music installation, no matter which device you hold in your hand.

Installation and Setup

Like many of the applications that make your computer and iOS devices play nice, Spot Remote is comprised of two parts; a desktop client and an iOS app. To use Spot Remote, you’ll need to install both. The desktop client can be downloaded from the website without charge. This also means there’s no limit to the number of computers you can control with the Spot Remote app on your iOS device.

control spotify on mac with iphone

The iOS Spot Remote app will only set you back $2.99 for a universal app which works on both the iPhone and iPad, so if you buy one, you can use it on both devices. After installing the desktop client, your computer should show up in the Spot Remote app.

If your iPad is unable to detect your computer, make sure your iPad and computer are on the same network and the Spot Remote desktop client is running. Restart the Spotify desktop client and go to Settings > Show available servers in the Spot Remote iOS app.

As mentioned above, the Spot Remote iOS app feels mighty similar to the Spotify iOS app. There’s some overlap in functionality, too. You can search Spotify’s database for tracks, artists and albums as you would in the Spotify app. Select a song or album to play it on your connected Mac OS X computer.

control spotify on mac with iphone

Although the search functionality in Spot Remote for the iPad works like a charm, sometimes the interface seems to be designed primarily for the iPhone and only starts to look good once you’ve browsed through several tabs, as shown in the screenshot above.

Although queueing music will often involve using the Spot Remote’s search, you can navigate the Spotify library a number of ways. Any playlists you’ve created in Spotify or playlists you’ve found through ShareMyPlaylists are also accessible through Spot Remote. The top lists you see when you open Spotify — either music recommended for you specifically or music that’s popular in your region — can also be found in Spot Remote’s sidebar.

control spotify on mac with iphone

More advanced features are available through Spot Remote’s pop-up menu. Press and hold any song in the search results or one of your playlists to show a pop-up context menu, as shown below. Similar to the Spotify application, here you can star and queue a song, add it to a playlist or even start a radio station.

control spotify on mac

In the end, if you’re not looking for music, you’ll spend most of your time in the Now Playing screen of Spot Remote. This screen, shown in the screenshot above, can be opened by pressing the full-screen arrows in the lower left corner of the Spot Remote application. This simple, yet elegant screen allows you to skip through songs and toggle different play modes.

More importantly, even if you can’t access the wide variety of Spotify apps, if you use one of these to start start a playlist through Spotify’s fully featured desktop client, you can still view and skip songs in Spot Remote’s now playing screen.

5 Unique Ways To Browse Twitter On Your Ipad [ios]

twitter on ipadAre you bored of Twitter? Do you find yourself scrolling through another day’s boring feed, wondering why you even bother? What if it’s not the content that’s boring, but the way you’re browsing it? When the service first emerged (only 7 years ago!) Twitter was mainly about text, and very little text with its 140 character limit. As it grew, photos and videos joined the fun, with built-in previews for everything from images to articles.

Nowadays, most people browse Twitter for the actual content shared, not for the witty remarks placed next to them. Granted, there are some users worth following just for what they have to say, but mostly, it’s the content we care about, or the conversations we have with Twitter friends.

Below are five unique ways to browse your Twitter feed on your iPad, be it through images, videos, conversations, or even color codes. Happy tweeting!

Twizgrid (Free)

twitter on ipad

I first wrote about Twizgrid exactly one year ago, and time has only been good to this slick image browser for Twitter. Twizgrid is a Twitter client based around photos, letting you easily browse images, and only images, others have uploaded to Twitter. Twizgrid is searchable by users, keywords, hashtags, and location, and includes several curated Twizgrid albums such as cars, food, nature, fashion, etc. When you find an image you like, Twizgrid becomes an actual Twitter client, letting you reply, retweet, favorite, etc. You can also create albums within Twizgrid for your favorite images, or bookmark images to view them later.

Twizgrid supports multiple Twitter accounts, and includes a tweet option which you can use to tweet out your own images or albums, or just regular tweets. Read a full MakeUseOf review of Twizgrid.

Tweetglass ($2.99, iPad only)

twitter ios

Tweetglass is a full-blown Twitter client, and while it’s only available in a $2.99 paid version, it has some very interesting features that make the price worthwhile. Have you ever found yourself struggling to keep tabs on Twitter conversations? Replies to conversations appear in your timeline whenever they happen to be written, and while some clients support some sort of conversation view, it’s usually uncomfortable to use, if it even exists.

Tweetglass is all about keeping up with Twitter conversations, aggregating all replies to all tweets, and brining them together in beautiful threads. For every tweet on your timeline, tap and hold the user’s avatar to collect all available replies, or if this tweet is itself a reply, all parent tweets as well.

twitter ios

Tweetglass also comes with an image browser for your Twitter timeline, a feed made up of only retweets, list support, and integration with Instapaper, Pocket, and Readability. That’s on top of all the regular features offered by any old Twitter client. Tweetglass is a beautiful, comprehensive and self-sustained Twitter client. Once you make the move, you won’t ever need any other Twitter app on your device.

Flipboard (Free)

twitter ios

Did you know that Flipboard can be used as a Twitter client? That’s right, the popular free magazine app Flipboard that’s used by most as a news aggregator, can become your new gorgeous Twitter client. If you don’t mind giving up some advanced features, that is.

To start browsing Twitter from Flipboard, all you need to do is connect your Twitter account in the app’s Settings, the same place you add all your other boards, and tweets will appear in Flipboard just like any other feed you follow. Tweeted articles will look even nicer, appearing in traditional Flipboard tiles just like regular articles. If your favorite aspect of Twitter is reading recommended articles, you’re going to love the way Flipboard presents your Twitter feed.

twitter ios app

Using Flipboard, you can also view your own tweets, your favorites, your lists, only tweets that contain links, your mentions, etc. It even acts as a Twitter client of sorts, letting you reply to tweets, retweet, follow users, mute users, and share articles on other networks such as Facebook and Google+, or via email and iMessage. All other Flipboard features such as saving for later are available for your Twitter articles, and, of course, you get to enjoy Flipboard’s famously fantastic interface.

No Name for Twitter (Free)

twitter ios app

I’ll give it to you straight: No Name is not the prettiest Twitter client you can find. In fact, it’s not even good looking, not by any standard. But an app’s looks is not on everyone’s priority list, and No Name does offer some unique features that can help you see Twitter in a new light. No Name is a feature-rich Twitter client offering all the regular elements of a Twitter app, but includes a customizable color-coding system, letting you give every user on your Twitter feed a different background color. You also have full control over text color and background color for regular messages and unread messages.

twitter on ipad

The app supports multiple columns, but the interface is far from intuitive, so be prepared for some sort of learning curve when you first start using it. To me, No Name is unique not only for its features, but also for its bare-bones, almost ugly interface. It’s reminiscent of old Windows programs, somehow, and definitely has that nostalgic feel. No Name is completely free, so give it a try. Worst case scenario is that you won’t like it!

Showyou (Free, iOS 6+)

If you’re into videos, Showyou is an excellent way to keep track of videos posted to Twitter. Showyou lets you keep track of videos your friends like from all over the Web, helping you find the things worth watching out of the thousands of videos uploaded every day. When you connect your Twitter account to Showyou, you can start seeing videos tweeted by your friends and watch them from within the app. You can also share videos you find with your Twitter followers, and much more.

The video above is a little outdated, but it’s a good explanation of how Showyou works. Read a full review of Showyou.
